As AGVs can handle material on a ‘just in time’ basis, they help to maximize the efficiency and reliability of production departments.
Once palletized, LUs need to be taken up straight away, without any pause in the automated sequence; AGVs are able to provide this kind of continuity both quickly and safely.
For reference purposes, laser guidance technology uses a number of reflectors located on walls/beams along the route followed by the vehicles, which enable the controller to calculate the position of the vehicle. The main advantage of the laser system is that there are no devices associated physically with the route (guidewire, magnets, painted lines, etc.). This means that a laser guidance system can be modified easily by way of software, guaranteeing the highest level of flexibility in adapting to possible future developments within the factory.
“Multi-navigation” is used when, for various reasons, a laser guidance system needs to be combined with a second system (e.g.: magnetic guidance).
